The Black Hole 90L is a fantastic bag for traveling or car camping. With a “just right” size, this bag can carry a week’s worth of gear with ease, does an admirable job withstanding the elements and can take more than its fair share of abuse. Having deployable backpack straps is also a huge bonus just in case.

Colorado-based Trango is a climbing company first, and that expertise is readily apparent in their Mountain Vault duffel collection. To help keep your gear dry, Trango also included a water resistant main zipper and sealed seams, and multiple daisy chains and tie-down points make it easy to secure the bag on a roof rack or in a truck bed or boat. Whether you’re headed out on a gear-intensive weekend trip or venturing to a remote mountain destination across the globe, the Mountain Vault is up to the task. Patagonia works hard to to lessen its impact on people and the environment. As that shakes out in the Black Hole product line, Patagonia manufactures the Black Hole Duffel from a 100% recycled 900-denier polyester ripstop with a TPU-film laminate. The fabric is weather-resistant, abrasion-resistant and highly packable. Patagonia even lined the interior with a 100% recycled polyester.

Its burly and bombroof ripstop fabric withstands wear and tear from endless adventures, and doesn’t mind being tossed down on rocky and rugged surfaces. The Black Hole series also boasts a highly water-resistant construction that keeps your stuff dry from all but the most relentless downpours, so you can have some peace of mind when your bag’s resting in the back of a pickup. Deployable backpack straps make it easy to carry when you’re wandering new cities or hiking trails, while daisy chain loops provide lashing points for extra equipment and gear. The Patagonia Black Hole is an impressive duffel bag and earns a notable mention with its stylish design and dependable all-around performance. It just misses out on our top award and is one of our favorite designs with its sleek and durable 900-denier recycled material.
